The Marlborough carriage chronometer
The fully jeweled 8 day movement incorporates the traditional detent escapement, fusee and chain. As befits a travelling timepiece is compensated for changes of temperature between 4 and 35 degrees. Every part of the superb movement, clearly visible through the glass case, is meticulously hand-finished. The case with its sloping sides and bevelled glasspanels is modern in concept but of an ageless simplicity equally at ease in antique or modern surroundings.
By definition, the carriage clock is a portable timekeeper different from a watch, designed for the use on a journey. The popular conception is of a brass and glass case with a carrying handle. So far this is equally true of the Mercer "Marlborough" with one important exception - the Chronometer movement.
