This extremely rare, museum-quality IWC Schaffhausen half hunting case pocket watch in 18K gold with extremely significant collector's value is equipped with the most beautiful and unique so-called "fishtail" movement, caliber 72. The hunting case pocket watch was made for the English market and delivered to Stauffer (IWC representative in the UK) in England around 1911. In the same year, Stauffer, Son & Co submitted the hunting case pocket watch for the Kew Observatory's chronometer competition and tested it in the Kew, Class A category by extensive rate measurements. The Neuchatel Observatory, Geneva Observatory, Besancon Observatory, and Kew Observatory are prominent examples of observatories that certified the accuracy of mechanical timepieces. The movement has a patented winding mechanism, brevet 31457 dated May 11, 1904, inventor Uhrenfabrik J. Rauschenbach, Schaffhausen, Switzerland. The watch came from the possession of Graham Menzies, who received it in recognition of his commitment to the Great War. The watch was carefully checked at IWC Schaffhausen in 2021, the originality of the watch was confirmed and the IWC Schaffhausen certificate of authenticity, included in the scope of delivery, was issued afterwards.
