A rare, heavy gent's hunter case pocket watch
"Grande Sonnerie"
with quarter hour/hour self strike
and with quarter repeating
Henri Onésime Stauffer
Patent / Brevet 13896, of February 17th, 1897
in massiv 18k gold case
with a high-quality, complicated movement
This complicated "Grande Sonnerie" hunter case pocket watch with quarter / hour repeating, measuring approx. 58mm in diameter and weighing over 158 grams, was manufactured at the end of the 19th century in Western Switzerland.
The special feature of this pocket watch is the independent, quarter-hour triggering of the strike movement, which can also be repeated manually as often as required. When the striking mechanism is released automatically, the full hours and quarter hours are struck. The small pusher for the manual triggering of the repetition is on the case band at "12". When the repeater is operated manually, the hours and quarter-hours are also struck. The high-quality, rare precision lever movement in "Quality Extra", Brevet 13896 patent by Henri Stauffer from 1897 has only one barrel for going and striking train.
The strike of hours and quater hours are carried out by two hammers and two gongs.
Especially noteworthy on this pocket watch is the all-sides magnificent and lavishly decorated 18k gold à goutte case. The front and back side of the case shows a beautiful composition of large summer flowers, sourrounded by a lot of floral elements on a chased backround. The 18k gold dome is decorated and engraved with manufacturer's details.
Also masterfully is the high-quality engraved and with floral ornaments covered gold dial.
Under the jump cover above "58" the small lever for "Sonnerie" (strike) and "Silence" (still) position is located.
