caliber Unitas 2813
Submarine execution with fluorescent dial

This deck watch was used by the Navy. An essentional tool for the exat time is positioning and navigation. The luminous dial is signed "STOWA - KM". This shows that this watch was made by Walter Storz in Pforzheim for the Navy.
The dial is still luminescent, but contrary to what is often said, it does not contain radium. Radium luminescent materials, such as those used in the indication of on-board and pilot watches, are long time ago expired.
The movement and the case have an identical number 730. This deck watch points outh through specific design features. The movement has a diameter of 47.8 mm, 19 Jewels and the caliber Unitas 2813.
After the Second World War, the Sinn company launched the post-war models, which differ in the case design. The case of the post-war models is chrome-plated, it has glazing on the back side and no dust cover.

The Imperial Naviy prefered the deck watches with the luminous dials. The introduction of these self-luminous dials for better readability by night was decided by the High Command of the Imperial Navy by letter dated 24/02/1944 (Ski H no. 963144 W Ivu) for all affected areas.
